If you take a look at the website above, you will see a "successful off-leash dog park" right here in Canada. Toronto has several as do many other Canadian communities. Thunder Bay should be no exception.
Tell me what you think, what park, what area, how many off-leash parks are needed in our city?

I agree 100%, especially with the city-wide crackdown on dogs off their leashes. This city appears to be very dog "unfriendly" with the one dog park we have unfenced, near busy streets, and with a pedestrian walkway cutting through it. We need an actual safe space for our dogs to roam without fear for their safety
I recently wrote the Chronical Journal in rebuttal to the abrupt comments regarding our public off leash Dog Park. Unfortunately nothing was printed... too bad as I felt the abrupt editorial left a negative taste in many mouths. I would like to share what I wrote with those who wish to hear...Thumbs Up! Off Leash Dog Park. My friend and I recently went and explored the off leash dog park located off Central Ave. We were both pleased to see that we could not locate any poop so to speak as we walked down the ten-minute road with our furry friends. I was telling a friend who said she had read an article regarding this area not being well kept. I have gone back three times since and continue to be thankfully and have no concerns. I appreciate the opportunity to exercise my dog while she appreciates the chance to meet some new friends. I am happy to see such projects coming to life. Thanks to the City for the area and those who continue to maintain it. Tail Wags Way Up!
I continue to bring my dog (Kyria) every couple days. Her little excited noises start as we turn the corner on to Central and she is always excited to arrive. I was pleased to see the City on board with this project. I recently have taken more of an interest in how the project is doing. I was a little shocked though to hear that the City struggled to make this come to life. Our City needs this opportunity more than ever. It is a great outlet for our dogs and it gives people a reason to be more animal aware. I believe the park has shown that there is a great need for it to continue to be developed. It is far from finished but I see the vision and appreciate the effort. I have recently started to bring my garbage bags and clean up the area as I have found large unsafe objects as well as a dumping site close to the entrance where cleaning product bottles have been dumped. I hope that the City becomes more aware that this is a great opportunity for our community and will not require another grant just to move forward. Again I think this park has shown that from young to old it is being utilized and maintained. Thanks ~ Shelley Tallon
Several years have gone by now since the Carrick Street dog park opened. Sadly, less and less people used the park due to confrontations between pedestrians/cyclists and dogs/owners, and the disgusting toxic swamp that would coat a dog with thick obnoxious black goo every time they stepped foot in it. The unfenced dog park attracted criminals to its parking lot as dozens of vehicles were broken in to throughout the summer. People had their purses and other valuable items stolen and the police response was next to none. Funny considering the police is only two blocks away. This park is a failure and will remain so until it is fenced. And now that the city has reduced its size by two thirds it's even more pathetic. I have to ask city council "What this a joke"???
