Councillor Rebecca Johnson Makes It Official
Councillor Rebecca Johnson quelled speculation today with the announcement that she will again be entering the 2010 Councilor at Large race. If successful, this will be Johnson’s third term at Council, a position she has held since first elected in 2003.
“I have been asked about my intentions throughout the summer. After some personal reflection and dialogue with friends and family, I determined that there is still important work to do and a lot I can contribute to our city’s future,” says Johnson.
Rebecca Johnson has been a long time contributor to the city well before she chose to run for Council with a resume that runs the breadth of community, social and business organizations. “From when I was the President of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Lakehead School Board to my involvement with Leadership Thunder Bay, I have witnessed great growth and success within our community. It all comes down to one thing---the people. I feel I am fortunate to have been able to contribute.”
Although Johnson feels we have made great strides in the past two terms, she also knows that there is always more work to do. She has most recently focused much of her attention on issues affecting youth and has worked diligently on the Anti-Race Relations Committee for the City of Thunder Bay as well as community organizations such as the Drug Strategy and Age Friendly Initiative.
“I believe we will need to continue to look at the diverse fabric of our community and determine pathways to encourage more involvement from every corner of it,” continues Rebecca.
But she most actively advocates for the development of a long term plan and strategy for our community. “What will Thunder Bay look like in 2020 and what do we have to do to get there?” This plan, Johnson continues, will have to have input and the involvement of the entire community to be successful, because, as she puts it, it will take the new generation to put it in place and to make it real.
Rebecca Johnson has developed a web site that serves as an information hub. More importantly, as Rebecca says it is a way in which constituents can ask questions, make comments and/or provide important information. Visit rebecca@rebeccajohnson.ca.
“For those that prefer I can always be reached by telephone at (807) 577.2807” says Councillor Johnson.
She closes with one key message, “I encourage everyone to get involved in this election, no matter your personal preference or position. This is not an election about me, it’s about you. Please take the time to ask questions, make comments and, most importantly, vote.”

My blog is still active
Took me forever to retrieve passwords and account names from my old computer but it is all worked now.
I enjoyed blogging in 2006 throughout the election and will enjoy it even more in 2010.
Changed my template colours and like them better than blue and gold.
